For Email, Letter, Call, and Social Campaigns, you will need to set up the targeted elected officials for your campaign.
If you select all targets:
Any person that visits your form will be able to contact any elected official selected with the emails, call script or tweets in your campaign.
Use this in cases where you want your campaign to have a wide reach. If you have elected officials that are already in agreement with you, consider bumping them to a separate “thank you” campaign with different scripts or emails. If you select specific targets:
Only those elected officials will automatically receive communications. If someone outside of your target districts tries to use your form, they can either:
- Be directed to sign up through a petition form using the petition fallback text in the campaign settings.
- Be directed to send an email as normal with the “Collect Non-Target Emails” feature turned on, which is held in a separate queue for you to send if you choose.
When adding a Target, you will need to first select your filters of what State, Chamber, and Party that should be targeted in your Campaign. If you want to Target Federal Elected Officials, select Federal under the State option.
Once the initial Target parameters are selected, the Target options will appear in the right-hand side for further filtering. By default no Targets are selected for the Campaign. You will need to determine if you would like all possible Targets or a subset included in your Campaign.
If all possible Targets should be in the Campaign, click the Select All button at the top of the section. You will know the Targets are now in the Campaign when their name section are gray-blue. Once Targets are selected, you can remove them from the Campaign by clicking their name section again. If you need to remove all selections, you can click the Unselect All button at the top.
While adding Targets to the Campaign, you can also search by the elected officials First and/or Last Name.
Once you are done selecting your Targets, you can review in the Your Selected Targets to confirm your selections. If you need to add more Targets, you will need to navigate back to column on the top right of the page. However, you can remove any Targets from the Your Selected Targets section.
If you want to Target elected officials across different Chambers (e.g. State House and State Senate), you will need to first select the Targets from the first Chamber and then switch to the next Chamber to select the new Targets. This is currently not supported for State and Federal elected officials together, due to the Congressional email system requirements.
