How can we help? 👋

Activate: Email Templates

Walk through of Email Templates to be used in Email Activations, Automations, and Journeys

Creating a New Template

To begin creating an Email Template, you will need to navigate to the Activate tab and then select Create New Activation.

In the dropdown that appears, select Email Template.

On the new page, be sure to give your new Email Template a unique name and optional brief description to keep your Email Templates well organized.

⚠️

You must be sure to select the Save Template option for any adjustments you make. If you do not select that button after further customizing the Template, the changes will not be saved.

Viewing Default Options

Every new Email Template in the system has a default layout in the right hand column. Remember that the content will be built with each Email Activation. This means that the text will be the standard “lorem ipsum” default and the image will be blank. The Logo at the top will default to the image you previously have provided in your Account setup.

Customizing the Email Template Layout

The default options can be removed or reordered to fit your preference. To reorder, you simply need to drag the element to the intended area and drop it in its new location. To remove an element, you can do so by selecting the red trash can icon on the right side of the element.

💡

If you see the 🚫icon when trying to drop the image, you have overlapping elements. If you slightly move the element, you should then be able to finish your drag and drop.

Add Content

In addition to customizing the default layout, you can add new Content blocks into your email. Scroll to the Add Content Section to see the options.

  • Header: This adds a new Header text holder of “Add header text here” for direction on email building later.
  • Paragraph: This block adds a new text holder for a paragraph of text during email building.
  • Button: This option adds a new button option that can be used to link to a Campaign or external form.
  • Logo: The Logo is the default image you provided in Account setup for your organization.
  • Image: This allows you to add an image block to your Email Template. Each Image block can be different and customized upon utilizing the Email Template in an email message.
  • News: The News block allows you to include a subheader for an article title, text block for a brief description of the article, an image, and a button. This element is one block with the elements that otherwise would be separate. You cannot customize the News order.
  • Divider: This allows you to include a divider line in your Template to improve the formatting of the Template.

To add new Content blocks to your Email Template draft, simply select the element and drag it to Email Template on the right.

As you continue to edit the Email Template, the elements can be reordered and removed as described as above.

✍️

You can add or remove Content blocks when designing a specific Email Activation. Consider making the Template what you know you will need each time to reduce the editing during your Email Activation creation.

Design

For more advanced design changes, you can select and customize all of the elements of your Email Templates. This will allow you to better adjust the look of each element. While the colors default to your Account’s default settings, you can adjust them here if you need a different set for this Email Template.

Additionally, you can adjust the Font Size and Alignment for any text throughout the email. As you make adjustments, you will see the changes reflected in your Email Template preview.

Reviewing and Editing Existing Templates

After you have completed and saved your Email Template, you can review your existing ones from the Template subtab under Activation.

To Edit your existing Email Template, select the Edit button on the row with the Email Template in question.

This will take you back to the Email Template editor. To further Customize, please review the sections above about Customizing the Email Template.

Duplicate, Archive, and Delete Email Template

Each Email Template can be duplicated, archived or deleted by selecting the three dot icon next to the Edit button.

Duplicate

This option simply creates a copy of your existing Email Template with all of the element customizations previously made. This is a great option if you either prefer to have your own default rather than the system default or if you want to make a specific Template with only slight adjustments from a previously created one.

After you have created a copy of the original Email Template, you can customize the new copy by selecting the Edit button on the copy as you would any other existing Email Template.

Archive

If you have an Email Template that you no longer are actively using, you can choose to Archive the option. This is a good option if you think you might want to reference the Email Template again in the future.

When you select the Archive option in the three dot button, it will be moved to the Archived page. This button to navigate to the Archived Email Templates will only appear when you have at least one Archived Email Template.

If you ever want to Unarchive an Email Template, you just need to navigate to the View Archived page, select the three dots button for the Email Template, and then select Unarchive. This will move the Email Template back to your active page.

Delete

Deleting an Email Template is done similar to the actions above by selecting the three dots and then Delete.

⚠️

When an Email Template is deleted, it cannot be retrieved again. If you think you might need the Email Template again, we recommend reviewing the Archive section.
