This guide and linked documents will walk you through the tools under the Activate tab including Email and SMS.

Understanding Activate
Within the Activate tab are the tools that allow you to send bulk or automated communications to your Advocates. If you want to set up an email to a Targeted elected official, please refer to the Campaigns documentation and tools under the Actions tab.
Different Activation Types
The system has the following types of Activations:
- Email Activation: Email Activations are the sending of a one-off bulk email to an audience of your Advocates in the system. Examples of these email messages are appeals to your advocates for a specific Campaign or your monthly newsletter.
Be sure to have an Email Template created before attempting to create a new Email Activation.
- SMS Activation: SMS Activations are similar to Email Activations except to send text messages to an audience of your Advocates.
- Email Automation: Email Automations are one-off email messages that are sent to advocates based on a selected trigger in the system: New Advocates or an Incomplete Action. These email messages send continuously to advocates that meet the selected trigger rather than to an exact audience like an Email Activation. Automations are limited to a single email based on the trigger selected.
- Automations can be created to be used in Journeys.
Be sure to have an Email Template created before attempting to create a new Email Automation.
- Journey: Like Automations, Journeys allow you to send one-off email messages to advocates based on triggers in the system. Unlike Automations, you can select pathways of communications based on further inaction or action from the previous message.
- Email Templates: Email Templates are the design basis of your email messages in Email Activations, Email Automations, and Journeys. While the content itself is customized with each new message, you will create the layout and design in Email Templates.
Getting Started
When logged into the Activate section, you begin your first action by selecting the Create New Activation button in the top right. This reveals the dropdown with all of the different Activations that you can create.
Once you have selected the Activation, you can begin the setup! Please refer to our specific documentation for each option for next steps.
