Set up you action details and choose your targets.

Let’s set up the basic details of your email action, how emails will behave once advocates engage, and who the targets will be.

✏️ Set Up Your Action

Your action details include basic information about your campaign, customizing data options and tags, as well customizing the workflow of your actions.

Action Details

  • Name: This will be the name of your action.
    • ⚠️

Since the name can be public facing, we recommend that you name it something you are comfortable with the public seeing.

  • Brand: Most accounts have one default brand. If your account has multiple brands enabled, you can choose your desired branding kit at this stage. Email help@advocacyai.com to learn more about account brands.
  • Language: Choose the desired languages for your action. Choosing multiple languages give you the option to enable language translations on your AdvocacyAI actions.
  • Internal Description: Describes the action for your internal team.
  • Ada Drafted Content: When turned on, Ada will help you draft content based on the information you provide. This option can be enabled or disabled at any time by toggling the switch on or off.

Information for AI: Provide context for Ada about what the action is for, your goals, and any other information that will make the content draft more relevant for your organization and advocates.

  • Start Date: The date when your action will start.
  • End Date: An action can be ongoing or end at a specified date or time.
    • 💡

Tip: If your action is time dependent (for example, it will end after a vote on a piece of legislation) we encourage you to set an end date so advocates cannot engage with the action after it is no longer relevant. Advocates can still be directed to sign a petition if they find the link after the date has passed.

Customize Data Options and Set Tags

  • Enable VoterMatch: match your advocate information with the voter file and other demographic data.
    • 💡

When VoterMatch is enabled, Address is a required field for advocates. Read more about how VoterMatch affects Address Collection here.

  • Enable DonorMatch: request enriched donor information, like capacity for giving and past giving history, to surface potential donors within your advocate list. Only available for Pro AdvocacyAI accounts.
  • Set Action Tags: The selected tags will be added to any advocate that engages with this action. Tags can be managed in the in Advocates section.

Set Action Details: The Workflow of Your Action

⚠️

The options in this menu will be different depending on which action type you are creating. Check out the individual guides for emails, letters, stories, media actions to learn more about the options available.

🎯 Choose Your Targets

Filter and Search Targets

  • Countries: choose from your available countries to narrow down subsequent filters.
  • States/Province: choose from the available states, provinces, or departments based on the selected country.
    • Custom Targets: create your own targets in the platform to contact people, companies, or agencies who are not elected officials.
  • Chamber: choose from the available lawmaking assemblies within the selected country’s legislature.
  • Party: choose from the available political parties.

A Note on Elected Official Targets

Elected officials can only be contacted by advocates who they represent*. If an advocate outside that district takes action, they will not be able to contact them. Instead, they will be asked to sign a petition. You can edit the language of that petition as you customize your action widget.

*Some actions have a “Always Send to Specific Targets” option that will let you “flag” a target. This flagged target will receive communications from every advocate, regardless of whether or not they are that target’s constituent.

Once you have chosen your targets, click on the “Save Action & View Emails” button to continue.
