🆕 Pre-Onboarding Account Setup
Our team will provide an intake form ahead of your onboarding process so you can:
- Confirm the Account name, address, and email.
- Provide Billing Contact information and social media profiles.
- List the users who will need access to your account.
👥 Uploading a List of Advocates
You can upload a list of your current advocates from the Account Settings > Upload section (learn more by reading this guide). You must use the provided upload template.
Recommended List Cleanup Steps
- Remove duplicates.
- Purge hard bounces and prior unsubscribes.
- When possible, include full addresses to use our VoterMatch feature.
- Identify tags or custom fields you want to add and create them in the platform.
- Include only one “Email” column.
🏠 Adding a Custom Domain to Your Account Hub
Your Account Hub can be customized as soon as you get access to your account. Your Account Hub will have an AdvocacyAI domain (subdomain.advocacyai.com) by default, but we can set up a custom domain for you.

Custom Domain Set Up Requirements
- Confirm if you or your IT manager can change your DNS settings.
- If you are using Wix to manage your site, you are unable to customize your Hub Domain
- If you cannot change your DNS, your Hub Domain cannot be changed!
- Follow the steps on the Custom Domain Setup document with your IT Department to ensure they are able to update a CNAME to your DNS record.
📧 Setting Up Your Outbound Email Tool (Activate)
Before Using the Tool
- ⚠️You must only email addresses that have legitimately opted into your email program. If you are unsure if the email addresses have opted in to your email program (or acquired this list from a list swap), note that these email addresses cannot be emailed through the system.
- Confirm if you or your IT manager can change your DNS settings.
- If your website and email domain are managed through Wix, you are unable to use our email tool under Activate.
- For large lists (over 100,000), you will want to get in touch with our sales team to upgrade to a dedicated IP Address.
- Note: for lists between 50,000 and below 100,000, you may be asked to upgrade to a dedicated IP Address.
Setting Up Your Custom Email Domain
Before you can send emails from AdvocacyAI, we need to set up your custom email domain. Follow the steps on this guide so we can begin the setup!
Warming Up Your Email Domain
🚨Again, before planning to utilize the email tool in Activate, ensure that all email addresses in your list have opted into your email program. AdvocacyAI does not permit use of our email tool for non-permissioned lists. This is mentioned twice because it risks your email program’s success. 🚨
- Review our Email Deliverability Help Doc.
- Identify a list of highly engaged advocates to begin the warmup. You want advocates who will open and click the first couple of emails you send through our tool.
- AdvocacyAI can auto-enrich data (legislators, districts, etc.) only when an address matches the voter file.
- You can create segments from your existing lists with the use of tags.
- Create tags and custom fields in the platform for custom data you would like to bring over, making it searchable in the platform.
- The most important data to ensure you bring into the platform is behavioral data (ex: clicked last 30 days, clicked last 60 days, opened last 6 months), as AdvocacyAI will not be able to see the engagement history of your advocates from an upload list.
